About HHDW

Department of Health

The mission of the Hawaii State Department of Health (DOH) is to protect and improve the health and environment for all people in Hawaii. The Healthy Hawaii Initiative (HHI) was established through the landmark legislation, Act 304, which requires the DOH to spend at least 25% of the Tobacco Settlement Special Fund for disease prevention programs and the promotion of healthy lifestyles. The HHI is a statewide effort to create sustainable changes through policies, systems, and the environments where people live, work, learn and play, so that healthy eating, regular physical activity, and living tobacco free is the easy choice. The HHDW allows the DOH, communities, policy makers, and other stakeholders to assess our collective progress in making a difference in the health of people in Hawaii.
