Record-Level Data Request

Record-Level Data Request

If you are interested in obtaining de-identified record-level data for your own analyses, please see the instructions below for each available data source.

Vital Statistics and Hawaii Health Survey (HHS)

To acquire record-level data on births and deaths from Hawaii’s Vital Statistics or survey data from HHS, please send an email with your detailed request to profiles@hhdw.org. We will connect you with the appropriate people.

Alternatively, Hawaii-level birth and death data can be obtained from the National Vital Statistics data files located here.

Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS)

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) offer record-level BRFSS data for download here.

While this is the easiest way to get record-level BRFSS data, the data set from CDC does not include state-added questions and uses a more broad race/ethnicity categorization. If you need data from state-added questions or if you want the more detailed race/ethnicity classification, you can submit a proposal to the Hawaii State Department of Health (DOH) for record-level BRFSS data. Please be sure to review the DOH Data Sharing Policies and Procedures.

Please complete the following three documents and send them to profiles@hhdw.org:
