America’s Health Rankings 2025 Senior Report by the United Health Foundation provides a summary of the well-being of older adults (aged 65+) at the state and national level. This report contains 55 measures of health from 24 data sources on the following five categories:
- Health Outcomes
- Social and Economic Factors
- Physical Environment
- Behaviors
- Clinical Care
By providing a comprehensive overview of older adult health, this report can be used to assess strengths and challenges, monitor trends over time, and find disparities among subgroups such as race/ethnicity, gender, age, education, and more.
National highlights for older adults ages 65 and older (pg 2):
- Volunteerism increased by 19%, from 22.1% to 26.3% between 2021 and 2023
- Flu vaccination decreased by 6%, from 67.7% to 63.4% between 2022 and 2023
- The rate of poverty increased by 4%, from 10.9% to 11.3% between 2022 and 2023
- Suicide rates increased 5% from 16.9 to 17.7 deaths per 100,000 between 2018-2020 and 2021-2023
Hawaiʻi highlights for older adults ages 65 years and older (pg. 1):
- Among all five categories, Hawaiʻi ranked as the 10th healthiest state
- Access to high-speed internet among households increased 24%, from 72.6% to 89.8% between 2015 and 2023
- Rates of obesity rose 45% from 14.1% to 20.5% between 2014 and 2023
- Self-reported cognitive difficulty declined by 10%, from 10.5% to 9.4% between 2012 and 2023
