- Counts - Number of Births
Birth Count
Count of all live births in a given population and time period.
Birth Weight
Very Low Birth Weight: Live-born infants whose birth weight was less than 1500 grams (about 3.3 lbs)
Low Birth Weight: Live-born infants whose birth weight was at least 1500 grams but less than 2500 grams (about 5.5 lbs)
Normal Birth Weight: Live-born infants whose birth weight was at least 2500 grams but less than 4000 grams
High Birth Weight: Live-born infants whose birth weight was 4000 or more grams (about 8.8 lbs)
Infant's Gestational Age and Trimester Prenatal Care Began
As of 2014, birth record gestational age is based on obstetric estimate which is not comparable to previous data based on last menstrual period. Accordingly, prenatal and preterm birth data are provided from 2014 forward.
Prenatal Care Recommendations
It is recommended that pregnant women begin prenatal care during their first three months (first trimester) of pregnancy.
