2025 County Health Rankings & Roadmaps

The County Health Rankings & Roadmaps is a program of the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute, with support by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. The program aims to highlight policies and practices to help improve health within and across communities.

Highlights from the 2025 County Health Rankings & Roadmaps Report for Hawaiʻi include:

  • Life expectancy in HawaiÊ»i is 81.4 years, compared to 77.1 years nationally
    • By county, KauaÊ»i had the longest life expectancy (82.4 years), Maui and Honolulu counties were tied with a life expectancy of 81.7 years, and HawaiÊ»i Island had the shortest life expectancy, 79.5 years.
  • 93% of people lived close to a park or recreation facility, compared to 84% nationally.
    • By county, Honolulu had the highest percentage (97%), followed by KauaÊ»i (93%), Maui (90%), and HawaiÊ»i Island (77%).
  • 4% of people were uninsured, compared to 10% nationally.
    • By county, Honolulu had the lowest percent of uninsured people (4%), compared to 5% in all other counties.
  • 46% of adults in HawaiÊ»i reported getting fewer than 7 hours of sleep per night on average, compared to 37% nationally.
    • By county, Honolulu had the highest rate of insufficient sleep with half of adults reporting insufficient sleep (50%), followed by KauaÊ»i (44%), Maui (43%), and HawaiÊ»i Island (40%).
