2024 County Health Rankings & Roadmaps

The County Health Rankings & Roadmaps is a program of the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute supported by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. The program aims to improve health outcomes for all communities by providing a reliable, sustainable source of local data and evidence to communities. Here are some highlights from the 2024 County Health Rankings & Roadmaps Report for Hawaiʻi:

  • 8% of babies had low birth weights (under 5 pounds, 8 ounces), comparable to 8% nationally.
    • By county, Honolulu, KauaÊ»i, and Maui had the lowest percentages (8%), followed by HawaiÊ»i (9%).
  • 92% of people lived close to a park or recreation facility, compared to 84% nationally.
    • By county, Honolulu had the highest percentage (97%), followed by KauaÊ»i (92%), Maui (90%), and HawaiÊ»i (69%).
  • 4% of people were uninsured, compared to 10% nationally.
    • By county, Honolulu had the lowest percent of uninsured people (4%), compared to 5% in all other counties.
  • 26% of households experienced at least one of the following housing problems: overcrowding, high housing costs, lack of kitchen facilities, or lack of plumbing facilities, compared to 17% nationally.
    • By county, Honolulu and Maui had the highest percentages (26%), compared to KauaÊ»i and HawaiÊ»i (24%).
