Here are some key highlights for Hawaiʻi from the fact sheet:
- In 2024, there were more adults who use e-cigarettes (9.3%) than those who smoke cigarettes (8.1%).
- Among adults in 2024, those ages 18-24 have the highest prevalence of e-cigarette usage (23.9%) compared to other age groups.
- Among middle schoolers, e-cigarette usage increased from 6.7% in 2021 to 10.3% in 2023.
- 45.5% of adults have attempted to quit smoking cigarettes in 2024, and this is decreasing over time. It does not meet the Tobacco Prevention & Control (TPC) 2030 Target of 65.7%.
- 37.7% of adults who live in multi-unit housing are exposed to secondhand smoke.
- The state tax on cigarettes is $3.20 per pack (2024). The TPC Plan Target is $4.10.
- 6% of tobacco and e-cigarettes sales in 2023 were sold illegally to underage persons.
