State of Lung Cancer 2024

The State of Lung Cancer 2024 report by the American Lung Association highlights key lung cancer measures at the state level. The fifth iteration of this report continues to inform the public about lung cancer burden and highlights areas for improvement. Here are some highlights for Hawaiʻi from the state data webpage, Hawaiʻi:

  • Ranked 4th out of 51 in smoking rates (10.0%), significantly lower than the national rate (12.9%).*
  • Ranked 6th out of 49 states in the rate of new lung cancer cases (40.0 per 100,000), significantly lower than the national rate (53.6).*
  • Ranked 36th out of 51 in high-risk screening rates (13.9%), not significantly different than the national rate (16.0%).*
  • Ranked 38th out of 48 states in lack of treatment rates (23.5%), significantly higher than the national rate (20.9%).*
